Frequently Asked Questions

Are pool compliance certificates required by law?

If you own a swimming pool or spa in NSW, a Pool Compliance Certificate may be required when selling or leasing your property. The certificate confirms that your pool barrier complies with the NSW Swimming Pools Act and applicable safety standards.

At Sydney Pool Compliance, we carry out a comprehensive pool safety inspection and, if your pool is compliant, can issue your Pool Compliance Certificate on the same day.

What does a pool safety inspection include?

Our Pool Safety Inspection assesses every component required under the NSW Pool Safety Standard, including:

• Pool gates self-close and self-latch correctly
• Fence height and ground clearances
• Non-Climbable Zones (NCZ)
• Boundary fencing
• Climbable objects such as trees, furniture, BBQs and pot plants
• Gate hinges, latches and gaps
• CPR Sign compliance
• General condition of the pool barrier

If any items require attention, we'll explain exactly what needs to be rectified before the pool can be certified.

How long does a pool inspection take?

Most residential pool inspections are completed within 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the barrier and any potential issues identified.

What happens if my pool fails the inspection?

If your pool doesn't comply with the NSW Pool Safety Standard, we'll issue a Certificate of Non-Compliance outlining what needs to be rectified. Once the issues have been fixed, a reinspection must be completed by the same Pool Safety Inspector within three months to be eligible for certification.

What should I do before my pool inspection?

Before your inspection we recommend that you:

• Remove furniture, BBQs, pot plants and other climbable objects from around the pool fence.
• Ensure pool gates close and latch freely.
• Trim vegetation that could assist climbing.
• Ensure a current CPR Sign is installed and clearly visible.
• Download our free Pool Compliance Checklist to identify common issues before your inspection.

Are there any hidden travel fees?

Our pricing is transparent. The $400 inspection fee covers most Sydney metropolitan areas. If your property is significantly outside our standard service zone, we will notify you of any travel surcharge during the booking process.

Can I receive my pool compliance certificate on the same day?

Yes. If your pool meets all NSW pool safety requirements during the inspection, Sydney Pool Compliance can often issue your pool compliance certificate on the same day, allowing you to move forward without unnecessary delays.

What areas of Sydney do you service?

We provide pool inspections and pool compliance certificates throughout Sydney, including St Ives, the North Shore, Northern Beaches, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, Hills District, Western Sydney and surrounding metropolitan areas.

Why do pools fail because of the Non-Climbable Zone (NCZ)??

The Non-Climbable Zone (NCZ) is one of the most common reasons pools fail inspection. Objects such as pot plants, outdoor furniture, BBQs, retaining walls, trees and decorative features positioned too close to the pool fence can allow a child to climb over the barrier. During your inspection we'll assess the entire NCZ and explain any issues that require attention before certification.

Do I need a current CPR sign?

Yes. NSW requires an approved CPR sign to be displayed in a clearly visible position within the pool area. During your inspection we'll confirm that your CPR sign meets current requirements and advise you if it needs replacing.
